National research data center empowers communications staff to publish independently
The National Alzheimer's Coordinating Center (NACC) — the NIA-funded data coordination hub connecting 37 Alzheimer's Disease Research Centers across 25 states — moved from a developer-dependent internal site to a Cloverleaf platform that put publishing control directly in the hands of communications and administrative staff.
The challenge
NACC serves as the central data repository and collaboration hub for the National Institute on Aging's Alzheimer's Disease Research Centers Program, coordinating data from tens of thousands of research participants and enabling over 1,350 peer-reviewed publications. But the organization's public-facing website was maintained internally, with every content update routed through a single developer. Meeting announcements, researcher resources, data documentation, newsletter content, and event pages all competed for the same person's time, pulling a skilled developer away from the custom data platform and tooling work that NACC's research mission demanded.
The approach
Cloverleaf deployed a platform configured around NACC's complex content landscape: researcher resources, data request workflows, ADRC tools and documentation, event management, a newsletter archive, and public engagement content spanning Alzheimer's disease education and research participation. The content management layer was designed so that NACC's communications and events team could publish and update content directly, without developer involvement. This freed NACC's developer to focus on the custom data infrastructure that supports their core mission: the NACC Data Platform, ADRC portals, and multimodal data tools that researchers across the country depend on.
